Carbon-Dioxide (CO2)

A CO₂ cylinder is generally filled by weight, not by setting a normal gas-cylinder filling pressure.A cylinder mainly contains 30 to 45 kg of CO₂. At normal temperatures, part of the CO₂ is liquid and the remainder is vapor. The cylinder pressure therefore depends mainly on temperature, not directly on how many kilograms have been filled. Corgon (mixture of Argon & CO2)

Corgon is a shielding-gas mixture of argon and carbon dioxide used mainly for MIG/MAG welding. The argon provides a stable shielding environment, while CO₂ contributes to arc characteristics, heat transfer and penetration. Compared with 100% CO₂, argon/CO₂ mixtures can provide better arc stability and reduced spatter, depending on the mixture and welding conditions. Common Mixture 80% Ar + 20% CO₂ — widely used for MAG welding of unalloyed and low-alloy steels, suitable for different arc-transfer modes. Other ratios are also supplied for specific welding requirements.
